This morning I was getting tea at a roach coach and the guy in front of me dropped a coin on the ground and went, "bah." I guess it was too cold to deal with (it was seriously zero degrees today with the wind chill) so then after he left, I picked it up and put it in my pocket. Was that wrong? (Actually I was kind of bummed because I thought it was a quarter but it turned out to be a nickel.)

sincerely, i struggle with this weekly. seventy-five percent of the time i will stoop down for a penny, unless it is going to cause a snarl on the stairs up from the subway or someplace. when i find a coin on someone's premises, i guess i try to chuck it in the tip jar. interesting dilemma. is the sidewalk in front of the roach coach his premises? not sure. however, i do think, when the guy went "bah," he waived claim to his coin.
isn't it nice to know you're not alone with these concerns?
yes, it is! i'm glad you agree that the "bah" was key. and after all, it was just a nickel.
